Overview: Ideas for refocusing yourself on you true life purpose and dealing with life’s distractions.
My takeaway, ‘aha’ moments:
- Distractions get in the way of our joy and prevent us from living focused on our purpose and producing the life we want to live.
- Make time to figure out where you are today rather than letting the past or future dominate your thoughts.
- The first casualty of being distracted is our joy.
- The devil doesn’t need to deal us one life-ending blow, he only needs to distract us.
- Find ways to remind yourself who you want to be – to help you stay focused on that path.
- Take a lesson from children and get fully consumed by what we are supposed to be focused on, allowing joy to be found once again.
- Choose to be kind not matter the circumstance or actions of the other person. People remember when you are kind to them and it is impactful.
- For many people, being distracted is the norm.
- The comfort zone can be a distraction. Don’t wait for permission to step away from the familiar in pursuit of your purpose and joy.
- “Faith is also having the guts to actually do something about what you say you believe.” (90)
- We get to choose which is more important: to be right, or to be like Christ – to make the situation/response about ourselves, or about Him.
- Our words can distract other people from their focus too. Choose to be encouraging, not discouraging.
- Do I distract other people from what they are supposed to be doing? Or do I help them fulfill their purpose? As a friend, family member, co-laborer in ministry, and boss lady.
- Thought on finding your joy again (p. 134): be your authentic self while also giving away unselfish love and acts of kindness. Goff talks about making loving on other people its own reward. I want to be that person.
- Embrace delays and change!
- Create a process for refocusing yourself.
- Be like Nehemiah building the wall: remind yourself why you can’t come down!
